Really good show on at Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery at the moment.

Semyon Faibisovich’s exhibition shows paintings he made based on camera phone pictures taken around the Razgulyai area of Moscow where he lives.

Besides the poignant subject matter, the results are a interesting hybrid of inkjet print, painterly brushwork and a strange electronic Impressionism - well worth a look.

This Talking Heads shot is genius. I have so many questions about this image I don’t know where to start.

Lovely planetary illustrations from Anneka Tran

My particular favourites are Mars, fed up with all the probes landing on him, and Jupiter, who’s a bit worried about that big red spot.

A Julian House-directed trailer for Broadcast/The Focus Group’s spooky new EP.

‘Knivar’ by Lukas Nystrand is the current earworm round my way, for several reasons:

1) It ticks the wonky box

2) It funky

3) For some reason it reminds me of ’ Down Under’ by Men at Work, ‘Double Dutch’ by Malcolm McLaren and unspecified New Romantic pop and pretty much anything else from 1980-1983, while not sounding like any of them. That’s a good thing by the way.

You can buy it from the good folks at Lo Recordings on their compilation ‘Milky Disco 2’, the rest of which is pretty awesome as well.

The Dawn of Man… as you’ve never heard it before.
