This Talking Heads shot is genius. I have so many questions about this image I don’t know where to start.

A Julian House-directed trailer for Broadcast/The Focus Group’s spooky new EP.

‘Knivar’ by Lukas Nystrand is the current earworm round my way, for several reasons:

1) It ticks the wonky box

2) It funky

3) For some reason it reminds me of ’ Down Under’ by Men at Work, ‘Double Dutch’ by Malcolm McLaren and unspecified New Romantic pop and pretty much anything else from 1980-1983, while not sounding like any of them. That’s a good thing by the way.

You can buy it from the good folks at Lo Recordings on their compilation ‘Milky Disco 2’, the rest of which is pretty awesome as well.

Very excited to learn today that two of my influences (musical and visual) are teaming up for a project: Birmingham’s finest, Broadcast, and graphic designer Julian House’s band The Focus Group have teamed up for an EP. This is due out in October.

In the meantime I’ve got the Ghost Box back catalogue on heavy rotation – featuring Belbury Poly’s ‘The Willows’ in all its Radiophonic Workshop/Programmes for Schools and Colleges splendour.

Bot’Ox mix for Beats in Space

A frankly surprising mix from the reliably wonky Beats in Space show on WNYU 89.1FM. Download or stream it direct into your thankful ear.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing alert: I was not expecting deeply satisfying bubbly electro business from a lady called Doris Norton. But now I know better.

Pots and Pans - A. King and J. Matthews.

Wonky in the truest and most fundamental sense of the word.
